ChatGPT Desktop

Valency Bond™ works with the ChatGPT desktop app (opens in new tab) over MCP using OAuth. Installing the Valency plugin brings the MCP connection and the research skills in one step.

1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app (opens the desktop app)

2. Open Plugins and add the Valency plugin marketplace:

   valency-oss/valency-connectors

3. Install Valency from the marketplace. The plugin carries both the Valency Bond MCP connection and the research skills, so there's no separate MCP server to add.

4. Complete the browser authorization flow when prompted.

   Note

   A Valency account is created automatically the first time you sign in. The email you use does not have to match the email on your ChatGPT account.

5. Start a new conversation and ask (more prompt ideas):

   Use Valency to search for papers about quantum computing

You're connected

You see paper results. You can also explicitly invoke Valency tool calls.

Skills

The plugin also installs a set of multi-step research workflows on top of the MCP tools. Each one is a prescribed chain of tool calls, not a single search.

Troubleshooting

Plugin didn't install? Confirm the marketplace was added as valency-oss/valency-connectors, then install Valency from it again.

Using ChatGPT in a browser instead? ChatGPT on the web can't install from a repository marketplace. It needs Valency distributed through the ChatGPT plugin directory or a workspace. Use the ChatGPT.com guide, which connects the MCP server directly.

Need to start over? Open ChatGPT's plugin settings and remove Valency, then install it again. If a workspace installed the plugin for you, a workspace administrator may need to remove it.
