ChatGPT support is new and unstable for the moment.

⚠️ The MCP works fine on Thinking mode but not Pro mode. If this is your preferred frontier model, feel free to share any bug reports to help us improve the user experience.

Prerequisites

• A ChatGPT account — any plan works, including free.
• You need a Valency account. Sign up here if you haven’t already.

Setup

1. Open ChatGPT’s Apps → Advanced settings
2. Toggle on Developer mode
3. Go to Apps & click Create app

Create the Valency app

1. Enter the name:

   Valency

2. Enter the description:

   Infrastructure for Agentic Science

3. Enter the URL:

   https://labs.valency.io/mcp

4. Select OAuth
5. Check “I understand and want to continue”
6. Click Create

Connect your account

After a few seconds, an OAuth pop-up appears so you can connect your Valency account.

1. Sign in with Google or email

   Note

   Sign in with the email you used to register at app.valency.io. It does not have to match the email on your ChatGPT account.

2. You should see “Valency is Now Connected”

Taking a while?

Setting up the connection can take a few seconds, and it occasionally times out. If the sign-in pop-up doesn’t appear—or the connection fails—just try again. We’re actively improving this.

Using Valency in ChatGPT

Important

Before starting a conversation, change the mode from “Instant” to “Thinking” mode. MCP tools require Thinking mode.

1. Start a new conversation
2. In the composer, click the tools menu and enable Valency

3. Ask: “Search for papers about attention mechanisms in transformers”

Success: You see paper results, and can also explicitly invoke Valency tool calls.

Troubleshooting

Can’t find Apps & Connectors?

• Make sure Developer mode is enabled — open Apps → Advanced settings and toggle it on

Tools not appearing?

• Verify Developer mode is enabled in Advanced settings
• Make sure you’re in Thinking mode, not Instant mode

Authorization fails or times out?

• The connection can take a few seconds and occasionally times out — just try again
• Check that you’ve signed up at app.valency.io/onboard
